Employment Support

Many people state that finding and keeping employees is one of the hardest parts of running a business.
Having a clear process in place for hiring and knowing what’s involved before you start can set you up for success. Here are a number of resources that can help you when you decided to employ staff.
There are many considerations you need to make before hiring employees:

1. What is the role that you are trying to fill?

2. What pay structure is going to work best for your business?

3. What are your legal obligations to your new employees?

4. How will you find the right person for the job?

These are just a few questions we get asked all the time. To make it easy, we recommend you check out the ‘Hiring Employees’ Checklist.

How To Write a Job Description

When it comes to finding your next employee, never has it been more important to spend the time creating a compelling job description.

With the jobs market being competitive these days, your description needs to stand out and be concise enough to grab the attention of the perfect candidate. Make the tone personal and friendly.

Job Title

Make sure your job title is clear and specific to the role you are hiring for. Avoid any internal lingo and included the level your are hiring for (eg. junior, senior, manager etc).

Job Description

Open with an exciting description of your company, including your vision, and the role you are looking to hire into. This needs to be as good as any marketing message you would put out there. Highlight what makes you different and why they should come and work for you. Remember you are trying to attract talent into your company. Include the location of the business and the work structure (eg. remote, in person etc).

Responsibilities / Duties

List out the various responsibilities that the new candidate will need to fill. Dot points are best here for easy reading. Try to be concise and not too dictatorial. Keep to a friendly approach while still communicating what you will expect. Include what a day in the life of that role would look like.

Qualifications & Skills

Finish up with a short and concise list of any qualifications, skills or licenses that the person needs to have to fill this position. If no qualifications are required, you can put preferences here.

How to Apply

Finish up with simple instructions on how they can apply for your job. Most people still ask for a cover letter and resume. You may like to simply schedule a video or in-person meeting, or offer your phone number for them to contact you.
