Locally filmed Abalone Wars is in the running to be named Australia’s favorite subscription television program for 2012. It is also nominated for Most outstanding Documentary on ESPN and the History Channel.

The series premiered its first season in November last year and received the highest ratings for a local production in the history of Discovery Channel Australia. The second season of Abalone Wars that is currently being produced will continue to look at the industry’s battles including poachers and great white sharks, and will feature crew from the first season as well as some new characters.

The series has brought enormous national and international exposure to Port Lincoln for both the seafood and tourism industries. The winner of these categories will be announced at the 2013 ASTRA Awards on July 25th at the Sydney Theatre.
